Terrorvision's debut LP, Formaldehyde, is a dire exercise in metal that rarely manages to stumble across anything resembling a tune. The band fumbles through much of the tracks, creating a 12-song cycle with only one asset, loudness, as the songs are almost completely lacking in hooks. Only the anthemic "My House" and foreboding "New Policy One" manage to make any real impact, leaving the remaining ten tracks a sorry, lifeless affair. Formaldehyde would in no way indicate what was in the future for this promising British hard rock outfit, making this release essential only for hard-core fans of the band.

1972: The Album’s Golden Year

1972 was a monumental year for albums. From the The Rolling Stones to Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin to Big Star, there was an abundance of artists releasing career-defining and redefining music. Here we make our case for ten of the best.

Jack White, The Saviour of Rock

From the White Stripes to his time in the solo wilderness, Jack White has been foretelling the doom of a clapped-out rock'n'roll. The genius with a thousand projects has a new prophecy: rock is coming back. While we await its return, here's a look back at the White phenomenon.

Betty Davis, The Funk Panther

Without her, there would be no Macy Gray, Erykah Badu, Amy Winehouse or Janelle Monáe! Gone to heaven, Betty Davis remains the pioneer of feline soul sisters. The funk goddess par excellence. She was also one of the leading ladies in a certain Miles Davis' life, whose wife she would be for a short time. But who really were you Betty?
