Rushed out less than nine months after the surprise success of Dire Straits' self-titled debut album, the group's sophomore effort, Communiqué, continues in the same vein. Mark Knopfler and co. had established a sound (derived largely from J.J. Cale) of laid-back shuffles and intricate, bluesy guitar playing, and Communiqué provides more examples of it. "Lady Writer" (a lesser singles chart entry on both sides of the Atlantic) nearly duplicated the sound of "Sultans of Swing," even if . Communiqué sold immediately to Dire Straits' established audience, but no more, and it did not fare as well critically as its predecessor or its follow-up.

Queen: A Balanced Band

The film “Bohemian Rhapsody”, which was screening in cinemas in October 2018, is a reminder of what Freddie Mercury would always say: Queen isn’t just about him, it’s about a band of four exceptional individuals. This is exactly what Brian May and Roger Taylor (without John Deacon, who retired) have been trying to demonstrate since the death of their flamboyant singer on November 21, 1991.

Frank Zappa, for Better or for Laughs

The more time that goes by since Frank Zappa’s passing on December 4, 1993, the more his absence is cruelly felt in the music world. It's not that we have forgotten him, but we have been searching in vain for someone to fill his boots. Frank Zappa’s genius, both cosmic and comical, has no equivalent today, this is because no one, in almost three decades, has been able to combine such a high level of musical talent with such a brilliant sense of humor. Something Zappa did so well.

Shooting Big Star

It took a short legacy of only two years and three albums for Big Star to enter the rock 'n' roll pantheon. Unsuccessful in the beginning of the 70’s, Alex Chilton and Chris Bell’s band is now acclaimed as one of the most influential of its kind.
