A jazz Christmas, a Blues Christmas. That’s the theme of this two-disc set from the BD Music collection, which comes with a booklet illustrated by artists as original as Igort, Mezzo, Bezian, Jean Charles Baty, Ben Radis, Gérald Fleury, Antonio Lapone, Yannick Corboz and Nicolas Pothier, Michel Conversin, Dupuy-Berberian, Francois Cerminaro, Simon Van Liemt, Alain Poncelet, etc. In English-speaking countries, this holiday has always been a magical time when sleigh bells ring out to accompany the warm voices of Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra, and the year’s Christmas songs play, along with Jingle Bells and other timeless songs like O Holy Night, in the magical shop windows of New York City toy stores. Here, Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus are Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Bessie Smith, Dinah Washington, Louis Armstrong and even Mel Tormé, to name but a few. Their voices give a unique flavor to Christmas standards, one that’s far from cliché or generic versions. These vintage songs haven’t aged a day! © Marc Zisman/Qobuz

The Black Keys in 10 Songs

From 2001, The Black Keys have been reminding the world about the real roots of the Blues, cutting away all the frills and unnecessary solos. Their music has always been untamed, abrupt and minimalist. Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney developed this unique style over the course of two decades, without once selling their souls to the devil at a Mississippi crossroads. Here are ten songs to prove it.

Johnny Cash Behind Bars

Two legendary live albums released at the end of the sixties gave Johnny Cash’s career a huge boost and turned him into an international star. They were two records were unlike any others: they were recorded in prison. But how did the Man in Black find himself in such an unusual concert hall?

Fleetwood Mac: The Blues Period

Fleetwood Mac led two consecutive lives: a blues-driven outfit from the 1960s led by Peter Green, one of the greatest guitarists of his generation, and another, a pop-rock band that became one of the most acclaimed groups of its era. Their 1977 album, “Rumours”, remains, forty years later, one of the best-selling records of all time and yet the band’s lesser-known early years are no less captivating.
