Yoshinori Hayashi

Producer and DJ Yoshinori Hayashi constantly keeps things unpredictable, excitedly blending several genres during his eclectic, collage-like DJ sets and productions. After building a buzz with several early EPs, he made his full-length debut with the abstract downtempo grooves of 2018's Ambivalence, and vividly combined rave, jungle, and free jazz influences on 2021's Pulse of Defiance. The Tokyo resident began spinning at local clubs during the late 2000s, and had shared the stage with international touring acts like Seth Troxler, Marc Romboy, and Âme by the middle of the following decade. His debut release, an EP of lush, organic downtempo and left-field house titled The End of the Edge, was released by Going Good in 2015. The Forgetting Curve, with a remix by DJ Sotofett, appeared on JINN Records in 2016, shortly followed by Asylum, issued by Ital's Lovers Rock imprint. Hayashi shared a split EP with DB.Source in 2017, released by Gravity Graffiti. He began 2018 with Uncountable Set, a wildly abstract EP on Disco Halal, then released the dark, dubby Harleys Dub on Jheri Tracks. Ambivalence, a trippy, shadowy full-length containing a few highlights from his earlier EPs, was his first release on Smalltown Supersound. The label then issued Y, a more club-focused EP of techno and electro tracks, in 2019. Two of the label's regulars, Prins Thomas and Bjørn Torske, remixed Hayashi tracks on a 2020 single. Second full-length Pulse of Defiance, a mixture of jazzy breakbeats, galactic techno, and hardcore junglism, appeared in 2021.
