THICK

Brooklyn trio Thick cut their teeth in New York's all-ages D.I.Y. scene during the latter part of the 2010s, earning a devoted fan base with their spiky, energetic punk and rousing, cathartic melodies. After building up a buzz with a series of self-issued singles and EPs, the band signed with Epitaph for their 2020 debut full-length, 5 Years Behind. The follow-up album, Happy Now, arrived two years later. Nikki Sisti (guitar, vocals), Kate Black (bass, vocals), and Shari Page (drums, vocals) began playing around their home base in Brooklyn in 2016, releasing their first two singles, "Anymore" and "It's Always Something," later that year. While many of their songs take aim at social and political issues, there is also an element of playfulness and wild joy in their uproar. After the independent Would You Rather? EP in 2018, Thick were picked up by Epitaph, which put out a self-titled EP in March 2019. Working with producer Joel Hamilton (Iggy Pop, Tom Waits), they recorded their full-length debut, 5 Years Behind, which arrived in early 2020. In early 2022, the band issued a stand-alone single, "Love You Forever," which they'd written as a gift for a friend's wedding. It set the table for Thick's sophomore full-length, the raucous and confessional Happy Now, which saw release later that year.
