The Vintage Caravan

Drawing on classic rock influences, early metal, prog, blues, and boogie, Iceland's Vintage Caravan emerged in the late 2000s with a sound that combined the psychedelic haze of Deep Purple with the crushing stoner metal of Mastodon. Founded in the municipality of Álftanes in 2006 by guitarist/vocalist Óskar Logi Ágústsson, drummer Guðjón Reynisson, and bassist Alexander Örn Númason, Vintage Caravan didn't quite become a legitimate working band until 2009. The trio honed an energetic stage show, performing often as well as recording and releasing music prolifically, starting with a self-titled debut album in 2011, and followed the next year with Voyage. Originally released only in Iceland, Voyage was re-released in 2014 to much wider distribution on international metal label Nuclear Blast, who also issued the group's third studio long player, 2015's Arrival. Reynisson left the fold shortly after the latter LP's release, and was replaced by new drummer Stefán Ari Stefánsson, who made his debut on 2018's Gateways.
