Soccer Mommy
Idioma disponible: inglésThe project of songwriter Sophie Allison, Soccer Mommy's hooky, angular, indie rock is tied to vulnerable, conversational vocals that have covered such personal subject matter as depression, isolation, and self-harm. Her early self-recorded songs drew the interest of coveted indie labels, leading to her critical break-through, Clean, in 2018. She made her Billboard 200 debut with the follow-up, 2020's color theory, before returning with Sometimes, Forever in 2022. As a high school student at the Nashville School of the Arts, Allison started uploading her introspective guitar songs under EP headings like songs for the recently sad and songs from my bedroom in 2015. After enrolling at New York University, Soccer Mommy's eight-song for young hearts was released by Orchard Tapes in 2016. Her Fat Possum debut, 2017's Collection, combined updated versions of some of her early material alongside newer, unreleased songs. Produced and mixed by Allison, it was recorded by Jacob Corenflos and followed by a tour supporting acts such as the Drums and Jay Som. In 2018, Allison returned with her official full-length debut, Clean, produced by Gabe Wax (Deerhunter, the War on Drugs). A critical smash, the album featured prominently on best-of-2018 lists from such publications as Rolling Stone, Billboard, NME, and Pitchfork, along with dozens of indie-music blogs. That year, she toured in support of Paramore and Vampire Weekend. Signing with Loma Vista Recordings, Allison reunited with Wax for Soccer Mommy's second album, 2020's color theory. Recorded in a studio in Nashville with old cassette tapes she'd found as a sonic inspiration, the title reflected a thematic color scheme that represented topics like sadness, illness, and loss. It marked Soccer Mommy's Billboard 200 debut, reaching number 142 in addition to landing in the alternative Top Ten and prompting her late-night TV debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live! For her third album, Allison switched producers, recording Sometimes, Forever with Oneohtrix Point Never's Daniel Lopatin. It arrived on Loma Vista in June 2022.
