Philippens was born in Amsterdam on October 26, 1986. She took up the violin at three. Even before gaining her summa cum laude degree from the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, she had already won the Kersjesprijs, a major prize awarded annually to talented young Dutch musicians. Philippens went on to the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin for her Master's degree, studying with Ulf Wallin and once again receiving top honors. She made a critically acclaimed appearance with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Strings in March of 2014 under the baton of hot conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin, and she has gone on to perform with the North Netherlands Orchestra, the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, the Stuttgart Philharmonic, the Hermitage State Orchestra in St. Petersburg, and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Freiburg, among others. With the NJO (National Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands) she performed Karol Szymanowski's Violin Concerto No. 1 under conductor Xian Zhang, and the same forces recorded the concerto along with other Szymanowski works for the Netherlands' Channel Classics label in 2014. Her debut with the label had come the previous year with an album of works by Ravel and Bartók, and she released a Prokofiev recital on Channel Classics in 2017. Philippens' 2017-2018 schedule included an appearance in the Concertgebouw with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. She plays the "Barrere" Stradivarius violin formerly played by Janine Jansen, and she often performs violin-and-piano music with pianist Julien Quentin. She has also created her own concert series, "The Amsterdam Salon," where she and friends perform thematic concerts in an Amsterdam antiques warehouse, and she has performed chamber music with Quentin, violinist Vilde Frang, and other top musicians, at such venues as the Concertgebouw and the Berlin Philharmonic Hall.
