She has become known for singing in a traditional jazz/blues style characterised by a low register and augmented by her strong skills on the piano.
During her live performances Barber's repertoire of original material is supported by a selection of classics drawn from the rock genre and features songs by Bobby Gentry and Santana. She began recording late in her professional career, releasing her debut album 'Split' in 1989, and has been economical with her recorded work releasing just eleven albums in three decades. In recent years her best known recording has been 'The Cole Porter Mix', a selection of songs based on the Cole Porter songbook performed in Barber's distinctive style.
She maintains a busy touring schedule appearing with her trio which comprises of Patrick Mulcahy on bass and Jon Deitemyer on drums. The group performs concerts all over the USA and makes frequent appearances in Europe.
