Gin Lee

Born in Johor Bahru, Malaysia on August 26, 1987, singer and songwriter Jeanie Lee – known professionally as Gin Lee – was immersed in music from an early age; her father was a professional drummer and her mother was a singer. Encouraged to use her singing voice as a child, Lee was crowned the winner of Malaysia's Universal Music songwriting competition at the age of 18, and after graduating from Malaysia's International College Of Music (ICOM) in 2007 with a degree in vocal music and arrangement, released her debut album. Penning most of the songs herself, Lee's Mandarin album ONE & ONLY of 2009 was nominated at the 17th Malaysian Music Industry Awards for Best Local Chinese Album. She moved to Hong Kong and remade herself into a Cantopop artist with the release of her 2011 debut EP, Here I Come. Following the arrival of Gin Lee in 2012, the star was named the Best Performance Artiste of Malaysia at the 13th Global Chinese Music Awards (GCMA) in 2013. She signed to Universal Music Hong Kong in December 2014 and picked up a wealth of awards for her album beGin, including four gongs at the 2016 Metro Hit Awards. Lee's fourth studio album, Cantopop triumph Live in the Moment, was recorded with a live band and was certified gold by the Hong Kong Recording Industry Alliance (HKRIA). Two more albums followed, 2018's Bold and Beautiful and Lee's second Mandarin-language album, 2019's Ukiyo-e 浮世繪, which featured a collaboration with British DJ and producer Jax Jones. At the 2020 AIM Chinese Music Awards (presented by the Malaysian Recording Industry Association), Lee won the Best Female Singer prize for her work on beGin.
