Fake Laugh

Filtering jangly guitar pop and melancholy lyricism though a soft-focus lens, Fake Laugh emerged from London with handful of EPs in the mid-2010s. The solo project of singer/songwriter Kamran Khan (Lovepark), Fake Laugh presented a more coherent version of its bittersweet indie pop on the Fake Laugh album in 2017. Born in Berlin and based in London, Khan began working on his own solo recordings while fronting the indie rock group Lovepark. The group issued their debut EP, 21/12, in May 2014, and Khan followed it a few months later with the Freely EP, his self-recorded Fake Laugh debut. It received limited releases by Fierce Panda and Art Is Hard Records. In 2016, he self-released two more Fake Laugh EPs: Great Ideas and Ice. By that time touring as guitarist/bassist for Amber Bain's the Japanese House in addition to playing with Lovepark, Khan signed with Headcount Records for Fake Laugh's self-titled full-length debut. Featuring a slightly refined but still dreamy sound forged with co-producer Theo Verney, 2017's Fake Laugh included re-recorded versions of some of the project's earlier songs, with all instruments played by Khan.
