Emily Burns

A brightly emotive British pop singer, Emily Burns first gained attention in the 2010s posting tracks online while working as a receptionist at London's Abbey Road studios. Her debut EP, Seven Scenes from the Same Summer, arrived in 2018. Born in 1994 in Rugby, Warwickshire, Burns began writing music in her teens, initially influenced by a mix of pop and R&B artists, including P!nk, Macy Gray, and others. She was only 16 years old when she reached the finals of a local Live and Unsigned competition in 2010 and had several of her demos played on the radio. Subsequently, she was also invited to an industry masterclass at London's famed Abbey Road Studios where she met producer Rob Cass, who took her under his wing and began helping her develop her music. Over the next few years, she split her time between finishing school in Rugby and recording with Cass in London. At age 18, she moved full-time to London, eventually taking a receptionist position at Abbey Road, where she continued to work with Cass. By 2016, she had begun posting tracks online and issuing singles like "Plasters, Glitter and Glue" and "Take It or Leave It," and earning favorable comparisons to artists like Tove Lo, Sigrid, and Banks. She signed with the 37 Adventures label and in 2018 released her debut EP, Seven Scenes from the Same Summer, which included the tracks "Bitch" and "Girlfriend at the Time." A second EP, PDA, arrived in 2019.
