Cuando las hermanas Chloe y Halle Bailey grabaron y subieron sus canciones a YouTube, en 2013, tenían poco más de diez años. No se puede ser más precoz. Lo que sigue parece salido más bien de un cuento de hadas… Como la plataforma de vídeo tiene el alcance viral que sabemos, su chispeante relectura del Pretty Hurts de Beyoncé llegó a oídos de su autora en el tiempo que dura un parpadeo. Mejor aún: Beyoncé apadrinó a Chloe y Halle y las contrató para su sello, Parkwood Entertainment, convirtiéndolas a la vez en teloneras de sus conciertos.
No obstante, los puntos fuertes de Chloe X Halle son diferentes a los de su ilustre madrina. Pues estas hermanas que ahora cuentan con 19 y 18 años componen, arreglan e interpretan sus temas, bastándose por tanto a sí mismas para sacar adelante su música. Y además, su R&B es tan original que no se parece al de ninguna otra diva, puesto que no recurre a los típicos artificios del género: ¡nada de rítmicas hiperbólicas, letras superficiales ni melodías con alto contenido de azúcar! Aquí las armonías vocales suenan equilibradas, los beats avanzan a paso sosegado, los estribillos demuestran el mayor oficio y el catálogo de invitados (casualmente, Joey Bada$$) se revela escaso en cantidad pero no en calidad.
