With The End, So Far, Slipknot continue putting all their strength, power and passion into doing exactly what they want to do, regardless of what anyone else might think. On this record, the iconic metal band from Des Moines becomes a full-blown musical experience. They’re capable of anything – just take the opener ‘Aderrall’, which seems to flirt with warm classic rock flavours. Even Massive Attack would approve.
This is followed by ‘The Dying Song (Time to Sing)’, which shows Slipknot’s determination to break down any remaining barriers. This is an album filled with one great decision after another: ‘Hive Mind’ transports us back to the glory days of Canadian band Strapping Young Lad, ‘Yen’ treats us to overdone Type O Negative tones, and ‘Medicine for the Dead’ heralds a brotherly duel between DJ Sid Wilson and Jay Weinberg on drums.
