Par todos los amantes del country 1973 fue un año trágico a causa del inesperado fallecimiento de Gram Parsons. Pero Emmylou Harris perdió con él a su amigo, a su mentor, a su modelo musical y al hombre con que compartía su vida. Doce años más tarde firmaría un álbum esencial en su carrera y uno de sus preferidos, The Ballad Of Sally Rose, ahora reeditado en edición especial de dos discos que incluyen como bonus diez demos. Y entre estas destacan míticas versiones de The Sweetheart Of The Rodeo y de White Line. Por otra parte, el álbum destaca por ser uno de los pocos enteramente escritos o coescritos por la propia Emmylou. ¡Y es que Sally Rose era ella! O, mejor dicho, era el nombre artístico que adoptó en sus giras de entonces. La inspiración proviene aquí de su relación con Gram Parsons, buceando entre recuerdos ficticios y reales, pero al mismo tiempo revela las influencias musicales de la artista y supone una nueva declaración de amor por la música popular norteamericana. En temas como Diamond In My Crown o Heart To Heart, dos extraordinarias baladas, brilla como pocas veces antes su voz angelical y su talento para extraer lirismo de una guitarra acústica, hasta el punto de que cabe preguntarse si no estaría en contacto con el más allá. Y después aprieta el acelerador para cautivarnos con el ritmo en varias impresionantes muestras de country rock. Por lo demás, en Rhythm Guitar se presenta acompañada por Waylon Jennings a la guitarra, con sus fieles Dolly Parton y Linda Ronstadt haciéndole los coros, en un entorno sonoro algo más años ochenta.
