Estos discos suponen siempre, en cierta forma, una prueba de fuego. Más que de un peaje obligatorio se trata de una manera de medirse tanto con los artistas de antaño como con los contemporáneos. En el presente Standards, septuagésimo album en estudio, de título inmejorablemente descriptivo, Seal ataca ese Himalaya que son los grandes clásicos del jazz y del swing. Después de tres décadas de trayectoria el cantante británico ya no tiene gran cosa por demostrar en cuanto al nivel de esa voz suya, tan soul. Pero este bienvenido paréntesis de sabor retro proporciona también ocasión de comprobar que su timbre potente y sensual es capaz de brillar en cualquier repertorio. Grabado mayormente en los famosos estudios Capitol de Los Ángeles, en el mismo sitio en que Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nat “King” Cole y tantos otros grabaron algunos de sus mejores discos, Standards ha contado con la colaboración de algunos de los músicos que acompañaron a esas grandes voces. Estos discos suponen siempre, en cierta forma, una prueba de fuego. Más que de un peaje obligatorio se trata de una manera de medirse tanto con los artistas de antaño como con los contemporáneos. En el presente Standards, septuagésimo album en estudio, de título inmejorablemente descriptivo, Seal ataca ese Himalaya que son los grandes clásicos del jazz y del swing.
