En los últimos años, todos estos nombres tan de moda se han agrupado bajo la vasta e imprecisa etiqueta de «neoclásico». Pero, a decir verdad, este «escenario» se parece más a una banda heterogénea de inquietos artistas que mezclan instrumentos clásicos y producción electrónica –desde una supuesta conexión con los pioneros del minimalismo estadounidense… que deleitan los sentidos, y que abren perspectivas a ambos lados de su espectro musical.

Steve Reich, animal minimal

Es uno de los pioneros de la música minimalista. Pero también uno de los compositores contemporáneos más asiduamente interpretados. A los 80 años, Steve Reich ha alcanzado estatus de gurú incontestable con enorme influencia en varias hornadas de músicos, incluidos los de la esfera techno. Su evolución personal, su relación con el jazz o con las músicas étnicas, pero también la transmisión de su legado de una generación a la siguiente: el neoyorquino se expresa sin pelos en la lengua.

Gounod romántico y místico

Artesano mayor de la renovación de la música francesa durante la segunda mitad del siglo XIX junto con su predecesor, Berlioz, al que admiraba, y sus discípulos, Bizet, Saint-Saëns y Massenet que veneraban su fe en el Arte, Charles Gounod (1818-1893), místico y seductor, romántico en pos de un nuevo clasicismo, debe su renombre a unas obras maestras que, sin embargo, reducen su envergadura. Una discografía en pleno auge nos permite descubrir la diversidad de su música: instrumental, vocal, sacra y lírica.
