Cómo no entusiasmarse por esta celebérrima versión de Cavalleria Rusticana grabada durante los años 1960 por un Karajan en el apogeo de su arte con los más grandes artistas de una época bendita por los dioses del gran arte lírico. Mascagni dirigido por Karajan parece igualar el genio de Mozart o Verdi. Bajo esta batuta, la orquesta de la Scala de Milán suena con una opulencia casi berlinesa y un arte del legato untuoso. Admiraremos una vez más la belleza del timbre de Carlo Bergonzi, su delicioso acento parmesano y, sobre todo, la intensidad a la vez trágica, poética y llena de fuego que trasmite al personaje de Turridu. Con su personalidad, y su voz radiante, Bergonzi sobrepasa por mucho sus partenaires, a pesar de la presencia volcánica y la voz inmensa de Fiorenza Cossotto. La calidad sonora es parte integrante del placer sentido a cada nueva escucha de esta grabación archiconocida y muy celebrada gracias a una técnica estereofónica prácticamente perfecta en cuanto al equilibrio entre voces y orquesta. Este «disco clásico» no puede envejecer.


Inseparable de su melliza Cavalleria Rusticana de Mascagni, el drama de Leoncavallo encuentra en esta célebre grabación, realizada en 1965 en la Scala de Milán, una interpretación que, habiendo marcado varias generaciones, se escucha todavía hoy con admiración y respeto. En primer lugar, gracias a la extraordinaria encarnación de Carlo Bergonzi dando al papel de Canio la imagen de una humanidad ridiculizada, de una intensa emoción. No podemos escuchar su gran aria «Vesti la giubba» sino temblando y apiadándonos de este hombre herido que, a pesar de su dolor, ha de hacer el payaso («pagliaccio» en italiano). Es la demonstración moderna del ensayo de Diderot sobre la paradoja del actor que hace reír mientras esconde su triste realidad bajo su máscara: «Ridi, Pagliaccio !» (¡Ríe, Payaso, de tu amor destrozado!) Con Karajan, aquí en la cima de su arte, la orquesta de la Scala suena en tecnicolor, magníficamente captada por la toma de sonido típica de los años 1960 que equilibra de manera ideal el coro, los cantantes y la orquesta. Karajan insufla una intensidad casi wagneriana al célebre Intermezzo orquestal que precede el desenlace de un drama más exacerbado aún por el intenso sol de Calabria. © François Hudry/Qobuz

Cómo no entusiasmarse por esta celebérrima versión de Cavalleria Rusticana grabada durante los años 1960 por un Karajan en el apogeo de su arte con los más grandes artistas de una época bendita por los dioses del gran arte lírico. Mascagni dirigido por Karajan parece igualar el genio de Mozart o Verdi. Bajo esta batuta, la orquesta de la Scala de Milán suena con una opulencia casi berlinesa y un arte del legato untuoso. Admiraremos una vez más la belleza del timbre de Carlo Bergonzi, su delicioso acento parmesano y, sobre todo, la intensidad a la vez trágica, poética y llena de fuego que trasmite al personaje de Turridu. Con su personalidad, y su voz radiante, Bergonzi sobrepasa por mucho sus partenaires, a pesar de la presencia volcánica y la voz inmensa de Fiorenza Cossotto. La calidad sonora es parte integrante del placer sentido a cada nueva escucha de esta grabación archiconocida y muy celebrada gracias a una técnica estereofónica prácticamente perfecta en cuanto al equilibrio entre voces y orquesta. Este «disco clásico» no puede envejecer.


Inseparable de su melliza Cavalleria Rusticana de Mascagni, el drama de Leoncavallo encuentra en esta célebre grabación, realizada en 1965 en la Scala de Milán, una interpretación que, habiendo marcado varias generaciones, se escucha todavía hoy con admiración y respeto. En primer lugar, gracias a la extraordinaria encarnación de Carlo Bergonzi dando al papel de Canio la imagen de una humanidad ridiculizada, de una intensa emoción. No podemos escuchar su gran aria «Vesti la giubba» sino temblando y apiadándonos de este hombre herido que, a pesar de su dolor, ha de hacer el payaso («pagliaccio» en italiano). Es la demonstración moderna del ensayo de Diderot sobre la paradoja del actor que hace reír mientras esconde su triste realidad bajo su máscara: «Ridi, Pagliaccio !» (¡Ríe, Payaso, de tu amor destrozado!) Con Karajan, aquí en la cima de su arte, la orquesta de la Scala suena en tecnicolor, magníficamente captada por la toma de sonido típica de los años 1960 que equilibra de manera ideal el coro, los cantantes y la orquesta. Karajan insufla una intensidad casi wagneriana al célebre Intermezzo orquestal que precede el desenlace de un drama más exacerbado aún por el intenso sol de Calabria. © François Hudry/Qobuz

Las sinfonías electrónicas de Mason Bates

¿Cómo? No conocen (todavía) a Mason Bates? Se trata sin embargo de uno de los nombres más presentes en la escena norteamericana. Nacido en 1977, Bates es a la vez compositor, sinfonista y lírico, y DJ de música electrónica (utilizando el alias de DJ Masonic) – dos polos aparentemente opuestos que, sin embargo, mezcla con placentera socarronería. Así, la mitad más o menos de su obra sinfónica y lírica incluye, de una manera u otra, sonoridades electrónicas, en su mayoría sonidos «cotidianos», pre-grabados y restituidos en tiempo real a medida de la partitura.
