In 2015, Lil Wayne was facing endless delays of the release of the long-promised fifth volume of Tha Carter series, an album he'd been working toward since Tha Carter IV was released in 2011 and one he claimed would be his last. Tha Carter V ultimately wouldn't be released until 2018, and in the meantime, the rapper offered up Free Weezy Album as an exclusive release on a single streaming service to sate fans impatiently awaiting his masterwork. Five years later, a considerably revised Free Weezy Album was re-released as FWA with much wider availability, dropping some songs from the original and including new material from the same era. A few standout songs from the first release are missing, including "I Feel Good," which was based around a James Brown sample and "Without You," which featured an appearance from Bibi Bourelly. Still included are the majority of the hyper-charged tracks that first appeared in 2015, with songs like "Glory," "Murda," and the Wiz Khalifa-featuring "Living Right" serving as solid showcases of Lil Wayne's ravenous lyricism in a particularly intense phase of surrealistic wordplay and high-velocity swagger. New track "We Livin' Like That" closes out the brief but energized project.
