Exclusive interview with the young Finnish conductor on the occasion of the release of his first album, the complete Sibelius symphonies.

Klaus Mäkelä | Qobuz Interview

Qobuz

He is the conductor who is rising, rising, rising... And despite his astonishing youth (only 26 years old!), Klaus Mäkelä already imposes a solid maturity and a real individuality. It is only logical that the Finnish maestro, a cellist by training who was appointed musical director of the Orchestre de Paris in September 2021, began recording his first album devoted to the music of his compatriot Sibelius. An XXL recording entry since Mäkelä dares not attempt just a single symphony by the composer of Tapiola, but instead the complete set of symphonies! In an exclusive interview for Qobuz, he talks about this record conceived with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, his relationship with Sibelius' music, his fascination for old recordings and also discusses his desires at the head of the Parisian ensemble.
