Upon the release of their Qobuzissime winning album ‘Nuc’, we caught up with two pioneers of contemporary-classical music, Richard Jones from the Ligeti Quartet and composer Anna Meredith. Together they created an album of Anna’s work that really pushes the boundaries of what a string quartet can do.

The Ligeti Quartet & Anna Meredith | Qobuz Interview

Qobuz

Anna Meredith is an artist/composer that defies categorisation. She plays with her band, has been nominated for a Mercury Prize, was a composer in residence for the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and has written for TV and film, among many other things... not to mention she now has the title of MBE. Therefore it was only natural that she team up with the Ligeti Quartet to release their second album, Nuc. The Ligeti Quartet have been championing new and contemporary classical music in the UK for a long time, which explains their extensive history with Meredith. We sat down with Richard Jones, violist and arranger, and Anna Meredith, to discuss their history, collaboration during the album, and how we make contemporary classical more digestible for listeners.
