Winter & Winter
Winter & Winter, founded by Mariko Takahashi and Stefan Winter, realises a groundbreaking, border-crossing concept, in order to record and combine movements of classical music, contemporary works and improvisation as well as music from all over the world. The artistic directors Takahashi and Winter select themes and repertoire in order to have them recreated in a new sound staging by highly appreciated artists. The AudioFilm ("Cinema for closed eyes") – a genre that Winter & Winter has quasi invented – counts among the label's special features. Music, noises, nature and environmental sounds are captured by the microphone and merged through montage into a new piece. In the year 2015 Winter & Winter celebrates the 30th anniversary, in 1985 Stefan Winter releases his first production. Ten specially compiled albums, characteristic for Winter & Winter, appear in the Jubilee Edition: It Takes Two To Tango, Introducing M-Base, Paul Motian Standards Plus One, Metamorphosis – Classical Meets Jazz and Modern, Theo Bleckmann Love Song, The Rest Is Silence – Music Of Our Time, Music for Ironing On A Rainy Sunday Afternoon, Introducing Uri Caine, Nightlife – Sounds of the City and Accordion Time Voyage.
