Motown
The most renowned label house for Great Black Music. Founded in the winter of 1959 by Berry Gordy in Detroit, the Motown (a retraction of ‘Motor Town’) label marked the world of music by becoming a focal point for immense talent and a factory for smash hit tracks. Gordy used the money that he had generated writing and producing music to found the ‘Tamla’ label, the first hit song being Money (That’s What I Want) by Barrett Strong.
The soul, rhythm and blues tracks produced by Gordy would all go on to great success. From Stevie Wonder to Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, Lionel Richie, via Michael Jackson, The Supremes, Commodores, The Temptations, and many more. The lineup speaks for itself. Some of the finest records in music history – period. Dive into the catalogue in superior sound quality on Qobuz.
