Naia Izumi
Naia Izumi is a multi-instrumentalist and singer from Columbus, Georgia. It is his guitar playing that gets him noticed and he is often referred to as a virtuoso, although he denies it, preferring to emphasize his investment and hard work. His subtle playing - characterised by a flawless mastery of tapping - is disconcertingly precise, and his expressive and colourful productions contrast with his shy personality. He speaks very freely about his autism, diagnosed at 16, to emphasise the vital and life-saving role of music in his life.
Based in Los Angeles, in 2018 the prolific 34-year-old musician reached a career milestone by winning the prestigious Tiny Desk Contest, organised by NPR, with the track Soft Spoken. This was followed by his signing to Sony Music Masterworks, the release of his track Our Gravity, but above all that of his very rich (and so groovy!) first effort A Residency in the Los Angeles Area, rewarded with a Qobuzissime. © Alexander Fay - July 2021/Qobuz
