Music for Peace of Mind was the last of the three projects on which Dr. Samuel J. Hoffman played theremin on pieces composed by Harry Revel, following 1947's Music out of the Moon and 1948's Perfume Set to Music. Les Baxter had conducted and arranged those two albums, but for the third time around he was replaced by another top conductor/arranger of the day, Billy May. The lounge-ish jazz elements that had been a big part of the mix on Music out of the Moon, and far less so on 1948's Perfume Set to Music, had by now virtually disappeared. At the same time, Hoffman's theremin parts had become more prominent. At their core, though these were a half-dozen easy listening orchestration pieces, the otherworldly buzz'n'shimmer of theremin adding a layer of then-futuristic eerieness. Music for Peace of Mind was reissued as part of the 2004 Rev-Ola CD Waves in the Ether: The Magical World of the Theremin, which also includes the previous Music out of the Moon and Perfume Set to Music.
