Atlantic Records wurde im September 1947 in New York von Ahmet Ertegün und Herb Abramson gegründet. In dieser Playlist finden Sie die Künstler:innen, die die Geschichte des Labels bis heute geprägt haben, angefangen mit Drinkin' Wine Spo-Dee-O-Deede von Sticks McGhee & His Buddies, einem seiner ersten Hits (der später von zahlreichen Künstlern wie Lionel Hampton, Wynonie Harris oder Jerry Lee Lewis gecovert wurde). Atlantic spielte in den 1950er und 1960er Jahren dank der Plattenverträge mit Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Roberta Flack usw. eine entscheidende Rolle für den Aufschwung von Rhythm and Blues, Soul und Jazz. In den 1970er Jahren begann das Label mit Led Zeppelin, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Phil Collins und den Stone Temple Pilots eine Pop-/Rock-Wende.
