Roses & Revolutions

The gray-shaded electro-pop of duo Roses & Revolutions is intimate and dramatic as well as danceable. After they went viral with their first song, "The Pines," in 2016, it appeared on their self-titled EP in 2018. Making strides toward more-personal subject matter, the Under the Spell EP followed in 2020, while singles such as 2021's "Coffee" upheld the duo's pop bona fides. Singer Alyssa Coco and producer/multi-instrumentalist Matthew Merritt first met on social media while attending different high schools in Rochester, New York. She joined his then-instrumental group as singer, and the two continued to play together in area bands. They formed Roses & Revolutions in 2014. The project's first single, "The Pines," saw release in September 2016 and, with the help of prominent playlists, went viral in Canada and the U.K. within weeks. Nettwerk Records came calling before the end of the year and issued the four-track Christmas EP Winter Solstice in late 2017. Roses & Revolutions, their first EP of original songs, including "The Pines," arrived in mid-2018. In the meantime, the pair opened shows for Marian Hill, KALEO, and Vérité, just to name a few. Loosely following the plot of a fairy tale sketched out in advance by the duo, the EP Under the Spell materialized in 2020. At the same time more personal, it saw Coco opening up about real-life anxiety. In 2021, Roses & Revolutions issued several singles, including "Someone to You" and the Lostboycrow collaboration "Coffee."
