River Becomes Ocean
Based out of Brighton, England but with roots in France and Germany, River Becomes Ocean are a post-hardcore combo with a visceral and deeply cinematic sound. After building a devoted international following in the mid-2010s with two independently released EPs, the band issued their first full-length album, A Motion Paralysed, in 2019 via German imprint Department Musik.
Formed in late 2013, members Marvin McMahon (vocals, keys), Danny Snow (guitar, backing vocals), Ben Bartup (guitar), and Dorian Neidhardt (drums) made their recording debut in March 2014 with the five-song EP The World Around Me. The EP picked up some early traction in North America thanks to the single "What If I Stay," which featured a guest appearance from Shane Told of Canadian screamo outfit Silverstein. Produced by Sam and Joe Graves (Asking Alexandria, Yashin), their follow-up EP, December, appeared in 2016 and helped to expand the quartet's global fan base. Following these two self-released outings, River Becomes Ocean signed with the Department Musik label and made their full-length debut with 2019's bleak but powerful A Motion Paralysed.
