Canadian singer Renforshort makes hooky indie pop she's dubbed "bubble-gum grunge." She first garnered attention in 2019 with her songs "Waves" and "Mind Games" before releasing her 2020 Teenage Angst EP. A second EP, Off Saint Dominique, arrived a year later, followed by her first full-length effort, Dear Amelia, in 2022. Born Lauren Isenberg in 2002 in Toronto, Renforshort grew up singing and listening to her parents' diverse record collection. At age 13, she began writing her own songs, influenced by artists like Bob Dylan, Amy Winehouse, and Nirvana. By 15, she was posting cover-song videos online and performing at local open-mike nights. It was around this time that she met songwriter/producer Jeff Hazin, who took her under his wing and helped her develop her sound. In February 2019, working under the name Ren, she released her first single, "Waves," followed soon after by "Mind Games." The songs went viral, amassing over five million streams. The tracks also caught the attention of execs at Geffen Records, who quickly signed her. In March 2020, Isenberg, now going under Renforshort, released her debut EP, Teenage Angst. Produced by Hazin, the set included the tracks "IDC" and "I Drive Me Mad." That same year, she contributed the song "AfterThoughts" to the soundtrack of the Disney+ film Clouds. Featuring singles like "Virtual Reality" and "Exception," Renforshort's sophomore EP, Off Saint Dominique, appeared in 2021. She teamed up with Travis Barker for the synth-heavy single "we'll make this ok" ahead of the release of 2022's Dear Amelia, her debut long-player.
