Orlann Divo

Composer of the hits "Tamanco no Samba" (written with Helton Meneses), "Samba Toff" (with Roberto Jorge), "A Chave do Sucesso" (with Roberto Jorge), "Saudade em Seu Lugar" (with Roberto Jorge), and "Bolinha de Sabão" (with Adilson Azevedo), Orlan Divo had his songs recorded by the Golden Boys, Conjunto Farroupilha, Wilson Simonal, Cauby Peixoto, Ângela Maria, João Donato, Trio Esperança, Dóris Monteiro, Claudette Soares, Jorge Ben, Elza Soares, Luís Carlos Vinhas, Walter Wanderley, Cal Tjader, Fats Elpídio, and Tamba 4, among others. Successful in the '60s and forgotten in the subsequent decades, Orlan Divo was rediscovered by English DJs in the 2000s. Having also written songs under the pseudonym D'Orlan, and having also performed under different spellings of his name (Orlandivo and Orlann Divo), he participated in several films as the soundtrack composer and as an actor both in cinema and TV. Orlan Divo had his songs recorded for the first time in 1958: "Vem Pro Samba" and "H2O," by Roberto Carreiras. Having being hired by Ed Lincoln in 1960 as the crooner of his group, in the next year he recorded as an interpreter a double single which had one of his biggest hits, "Samba Toff." Known for using a bunch of keys as a percussion instrument, in 1962 he launched his first LP, whose title track, "A Chave do Sucesso," made reference to that. He is also the founder of the 12-piece band Ipanema Dance.
