Darbuka Siva

Born on March 13, 1982, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Darbuka Siva is Indian film composer, actor, and director whose music blends Indian traditions with global influences. He played drums as a teenager and began making Baul-inspired music with his first band, Oikyotaan, in 2000. One of his bandmates, future playback singer, Bonnie Chakraborty, became his mentor, encouraging the young Siva to expand his approach to the drums by also playing percussion instruments like congas, djembe, timbales, and udu. Darbuka Siva then formed the band Zahrra with Tanvi Shah in 2003. Two years later, he shifted directions by forming Yodhakaa, a band whose music put a contemporary spin on classical Indian traditions. Additional musical projects like the folk-inspired La Pongal followed, but Darbuka Siva didn't become a household name until he entered the Bollywood industry in 2015. He starred in the film Rajathandhiram that same year and composed the music for Kidaari one year later. Darbuka Siva continued composing the soundtracks for films like 2016's Balle Vellaiyathevaa, 2017's Nimir, 2019's Enai Noki Paayum Thota, and 2021's Rocky. He then made his directing debut with Mudhal Nee Mudivum Nee, a 2021 film whose accompanying soundtrack was also composed by Siva.
