Conner Youngblood

Conner Youngblood is a Nashville-based singer/songwriter who makes lushly arranged experimental indie folk. Playing upwards of 30 instruments including woodwinds, harp, and tabla, his songs are airy and abstract yet meticulously constructed, with his fragile vocals delivering surrealist lyrics reflecting on his extensive travels. Following several EPs and demos, Youngblood's dreamy debut full-length, Cheyenne, appeared in 2018. Youngblood was born in Dallas, Texas. He grew up listening to a wide range of music, from country and Americana to emo and indie rock to rap and R&B. He graduated from Yale, where he majored in American Studies and wrote his thesis on "The Weight" by the Band. Starting with 2012's Sketches, he began releasing digital collections of his songs. Inspired by indie folk musicians like Bon Iver and Sufjan Stevens as well as eclectic pop groups like Gorillaz, his music blended acoustic instrumentation with electronic beats and the occasional fuzzy guitar, and featured lyrics inspired by nature as well as certain geographic locations, whether or not he'd actually visited them. Settled in a house just outside of Nashville, Youngblood continued traveling the world and releasing EPs such as 2014's Confidence. His work caught the attention of British radio DJs such as Annie Mac and Gilles Peterson, as well as Ninja Tune-affiliated Counter Records, who issued Youngblood's The Generation of Lift EP in 2016. He then toured with the likes of Janelle Monáe and Milky Chance, in addition to releasing the singles "Higher" and "Everyday" with singer Nylo in 2017. Youngblood's proper debut album, Cheyenne, was released in 2018.
