Sofiane Pamart
French pianist Sofiane Pamart is known for defying the elitism associated with classical piano through his agile and atmospheric solo compositions as well as with collaborations that made him a major contributor to the French rap scene. After making his full-length recording debut in 2018 with Pleine Lune, a collaboration with rapper Scylla, two of his songs achieved certified-gold sales in 2019: "Matin" by Koba LaD featuring Maes, and "Journal Perso II" by Vald. That year, he also released the entirely solo instrumental album PLANET. Pamart went on to collaborate with rappers such as Dinos, Hugo TSR, and Frenetik by the time he released his second solo album, 2022's Letter. Its song titles wrote out a message of appreciation to fans.
Born in Hellemmes in the area of Lille, France, and based in Paris, Pamart began studying his instrument at a young age and eventually became a gold medalist at the Conservatoire de Lille. Also a fan of rap since his early youth, he eschewed expectation to record a pair of albums, 2018's Pleine Lune and 2019's Pleine Lune 2, with Belgian rapper Scylla. Consisting of only piano and voice, the melancholic albums featured guests ISHA and RIVE, among others. Both records landed on France's album chart, with the debut fairing slightly better at number 83. In the meantime, Pamart became an in-demand performer and songwriter, contributing to records by rappers including Médine, Koba LaD, and Vald. He had hits in 2019 with "Journal Perso II," written for Vald, and "Matin," which was performed by Koba LaD and Maes. They preceded Pamart's solo piano debut, PLANET, that same year. It rose to number 62 on the album chart. An expanded reissue, PLANET GOLD, followed in 2020.
In 2021, Pamart went to the top of the Belgian album chart with Vivre, which saw him co-credited with singer/songwriter Arno. The album also reached the Top 40 in France and charted in Switzerland. That year, he teamed up with Dabeull for the long-player Loving Life, and some of his other collaborations included songs with soul project Kimberose and rap artists Frenetik and SCH. The solo piano album Letter followed in 2022, making Pamart a Top Ten artist in his own right when it peaked at number eight in France.
