Über das Album

Der junge Pianist und Sänger Jamie Cullum machte einen erheblichen Abstecher in die Post-Norah-Jones-Welt der jazzinfizierten, akustisch ausgerichteten Sänger und Songwriter. Egal, ob er „Singin’ in the Rain” in der Art eines Stevie Wonder performt oder Jimi Hendrix über Stax via Van Morrison in „Wind Cries Mary“ kanalisiert – auf „Twentysomething” trägt Cullum dazu bei, den interpretativen Gesang des frühen 21. Jahrhunderts neu zu definieren. (Wer sagt, dass man eine überzeugende Coverversion von Radioheads „High and Dry" nicht im Stile eines Ahmad Jamal spielen kann?). Bei Cullums Ansatz gibt es keine sklavische Nachahmung, und sein gefühlvolles Swingen und der etwas heikle Schmachtgesang enthüllen eine äußerst musikalische Seele. Stewart Levine spielt hier Cullums bezaubernde Präsenz aus und setzt auf eine analoge Produktion, um den Stücken einen tiefen warmen Glanz zu verleihen. ~ Bob Windbiel
