Das Album The Very Best of the Doors, das zur Feier des 40. Jahrestages der Veröfflichung des ersten Doors-Albums erschien, macht alle früheren Doors-Sammelalben überflüssig. Mit zwei CDs und 34 Titeln ist das Album für eine Band, die in ihrer Idealbesetzung nur ein halbes Dutzend Alben veröffentlichte, ziemlich umfangreich. Natürlich enthält es all die Hits wie „Light My Fire“, „Hello I Love You“ und „Roadhouse Blues“, die man erwarten darf. Das Album taucht aber noch viel tiefer in das Doors-Repertoire ein und bringt Lieblingsstücke der Fans wie „Not to Touch the Earth“ und „Wishful Sinful“ sowie ein paar zuvor kaum bekannte Raritäten. The Very Best of the Doors wurde von dem ursprünglichen Toningenieur Bruce Botnick und den noch lebenden Mitgliedern der Doors neu gemastert und neu abgemischt und ist eine perfekte Hommage für die Band.
