Allen Liebhabern der Country-Musik fügte Gram Parsons’ Tod im Jahr 1973 einen unheilbaren Schmerz zu. Emmylou Harris verlor damals einen Freund, einen Mentor, eine vorbildhafte Inspirationsquelle und die Person, mit der sie ihr Leben teilte. Zwölf Jahre später bringt sie eines der besten Alben ihrer Karriere heraus, und es ist auch ihr liebstes, nämlich The Ballad Of Sally Rose, und nun wurde es in einer Expanded Edition als Doppelalbum neu aufgelegt - eines davon mit zehn Demos. Darunter eine legendäre Coverversion des The Sweetheart Of The Rodeo sowie White Line. Dieses Album ist auch deswegen so überraschend, weil es eines der wenigen ist, die Emmylou ausschließlich selbst oder zusammen mit anderen geschrieben hat. Sally Rose, das ist sie selbst! Oder vielmehr ihr Künstlername, wenn sie auf Tournee ist. Die meiste Inspiration, das ist eindeutig, holt sie sich nach wie vor aus ihrer Beziehung mit Gram Parsons. So schlendert man also durch ihre fiktiven und reellen Erinnerungen hindurch, durch die Liebesgeschichten in ihrem Künstlerleben und natürlich ihre große Vorliebe für die amerikanische Musik. Mit Diamond In My Crown oder Heart To Heart sind ihr die besten Balladen gelungen, denn sie weiß ihre engelhafte Stimme und ihr Talent miteinander zu kombinieren. Im Song Rhythm Guitar wird sie vom Gitarristen Waylon Jennings begleitet, aber auch von ihren alten Freundinnen Dolly Parton und Linda Ronstadt, die im Chor singen. Diese Atmosphäre erinnert schon eher an die Eighties. Und wenn man sieht, wie ungezwungen Emmylou Harris sich ihrem intensiven und tiefgründigen Gesang hingibt, um dann wieder mit herrlichen Bässen und wahrhaftem Country zum Vorschein zu kommen, so bekommt man Lust, seine Boots hervorzuholen und einem Grand Ole Opry-Konzert beizuwohnen. © Clara Bismuth/Qobuz

Im Song Rhythm Guitar wird sie vom Gitarristen Waylon Jennings begleitet, aber auch von ihren alten Freundinnen Dolly Parton und Linda Ronstadt, die im Chor singen. Diese Atmosphäre erinnert schon eher an die Eighties.
