Für ihr drittes Studioalbum begab sich Melody auf eine Weltreise mit ausgedehnten, oft monatelangen Zwischenstopps in Brasilien, Argentinien, Marokko und Portugal. Bei der Arbeit an den neuen Tracks stand ihr der brasilianische Produzent, Komponist und Gitarrist Heitor Teixeira Pereira (Sting, Elton John) zur Seite. Melodys jazzig strukturierte Interpretationen von Bossa Nova, Tango und Fado erhalten durch sein Mitwirken einen besonders authentischen Feinschliff.
Entspannt und zielbewusst zugleich schlägt Melody mit "Mira" die erste Seite des Skizzenbuchs ihrer Reisen auf. Ein frischer Morgen liegt in der Luft, wenn sie mit lockender, sanfter Stimme über verspielte Percussion gleitet.
"Amalia" kultiviert diesen Stilgriff auf hohem Niveau und mit einem unaufdringlichen und leicht melancholischen Refrain. Für "Goodbye" präsentiert die Künstlerin eine reizvolle, sehr eigene Umsetzung des Tango, und verlässt dafür die Ebene des samtenen Gesangs. Hier lotet sie bislang bei ihr nicht vermutete vokale Abgründe energisch aus.
Auch wenn luftige Heiterkeit und ohrschmeichelnde Sounds klar im Vordergrund stehen, schleichen sich, besonders in der zweiten Albenhälfte, verstärkt dunklere Untertöne ein. So hält "The Absence" Abstand vom Easy Listening und sorgt für eine breit gefächerte Stimmungsvielfalt. Nach den optimistischen Startsongs gibt "So We Meet Again My Heartache" eine erste Kostprobe gebrochener Gefühlswelten.
Höhepunkt: die unwiderstehliche Verführung in "Lisboa". Eine Kirchturmglocke läutet, und immer tiefer zieht die Gardot hinein in eine faszinierende Sound-Reise. Die erreicht ihren Höhepunkt gegen Ende der Nummer, wenn Melody und ihr Partner nicht nur ein landläufiges Duett präsentieren: Denn dieses gegenseitige Umgarnen und Streicheln ist purer Sex.
Die Arrangements sind ausgestattet mit zahlreichen, kleinen Details, die für immer wieder neue Wendungen und atmosphärische Augenblicke innerhalb der Titel sorgen. Piano-Tupfer, zart gezupfte Akustikgitarren, elegante, zurückhaltende Streicher und passgenaue Percussion sind eingebettet in eine technisch hochstehende, aber niemals steril klingende Produktion. Melody Gardot weiß eben genau, wie man die Spannung hoch hält.

Für ihr drittes Studioalbum begab sich Melody auf eine Weltreise mit ausgedehnten, oft monatelangen Zwischenstopps in Brasilien, Argentinien, Marokko und Portugal. Bei der Arbeit an den neuen Tracks stand ihr der brasilianische Produzent, Komponist und Gitarrist Heitor Teixeira Pereira (Sting, Elton John) zur Seite. Melodys jazzig strukturierte Interpretationen von Bossa Nova, Tango und Fado erhalten durch sein Mitwirken einen besonders authentischen Feinschliff.
Entspannt und zielbewusst zugleich schlägt Melody mit "Mira" die erste Seite des Skizzenbuchs ihrer Reisen auf. Ein frischer Morgen liegt in der Luft, wenn sie mit lockender, sanfter Stimme über verspielte Percussion gleitet.
"Amalia" kultiviert diesen Stilgriff auf hohem Niveau und mit einem unaufdringlichen und leicht melancholischen Refrain. Für "Goodbye" präsentiert die Künstlerin eine reizvolle, sehr eigene Umsetzung des Tango, und verlässt dafür die Ebene des samtenen Gesangs. Hier lotet sie bislang bei ihr nicht vermutete vokale Abgründe energisch aus.
Auch wenn luftige Heiterkeit und ohrschmeichelnde Sounds klar im Vordergrund stehen, schleichen sich, besonders in der zweiten Albenhälfte, verstärkt dunklere Untertöne ein. So hält "The Absence" Abstand vom Easy Listening und sorgt für eine breit gefächerte Stimmungsvielfalt. Nach den optimistischen Startsongs gibt "So We Meet Again My Heartache" eine erste Kostprobe gebrochener Gefühlswelten.
Höhepunkt: die unwiderstehliche Verführung in "Lisboa". Eine Kirchturmglocke läutet, und immer tiefer zieht die Gardot hinein in eine faszinierende Sound-Reise. Die erreicht ihren Höhepunkt gegen Ende der Nummer, wenn Melody und ihr Partner nicht nur ein landläufiges Duett präsentieren: Denn dieses gegenseitige Umgarnen und Streicheln ist purer Sex.
Die Arrangements sind ausgestattet mit zahlreichen, kleinen Details, die für immer wieder neue Wendungen und atmosphärische Augenblicke innerhalb der Titel sorgen. Piano-Tupfer, zart gezupfte Akustikgitarren, elegante, zurückhaltende Streicher und passgenaue Percussion sind eingebettet in eine technisch hochstehende, aber niemals steril klingende Produktion. Melody Gardot weiß eben genau, wie man die Spannung hoch hält.
