Im Jahr 2016 entstand für das kleine Label „Alien Sound Art“ eine Einspielung mit dem Titel: Ravel, Sämtliche Klavierwerke Volume 1. Eine zweite Folge ist nie erschienen. Der Pianist damals hieß Alfonso Gómez, in Spanien geboren und anfangs ausgebildet, inzwischen lehrend in Freiburg und Stuttgart. Die Aufnahme verschwand, trotz ihrer Qualitäten, still vom Markt. Und nun ist bei Coviello Classics eine vollständige Aufnahme der Ravel-Werke erschienen – mit Alfonso Gómez.
Das Erstaunliche ist, wie unprätentiös Gómez hier spielt. Wie oft hat man Ravel zu sanft, zu schwammig oder sonstwie übertrieben gehört. Nichts davon hier. Gómez spielt mit einer Leichtigkeit und Selbstverständlichkeit, als gäbe es nur eins: so und nicht anders. Wenn die „Barque“ auf dem Ozean plätschert, geschieht das souverän und filigran, tropfenfein. Die einzelnen Stimmen formt Gómez, als zöge er an den jeweiligen Registern einer Orgel. Die Balance zwischen Anschlag und Pedaleinsatz gelingt sehr überzeugend. Nie hat man den Eindruck, dass der Klang verwässert. Im Gegenteil: Alles ist ungemein klar gespielt, man kann jeden Ton erkennen und ihn im Verbund von anderen unterscheiden.
Zugegeben, den „Scarbo“ in „Gaspard de la nuit“ hat man, nicht nur bei Martha Argerich, schon spektakulärer gehört und damit effektvoller. Doch genau darauf kommt es Gómez nicht an, und das macht die Aufnahme so wertvoll. Er schöpft seine Ideen und Ansätze aus den Noten, er stülpt ihnen nichts über. Die „Valses nobles et sentimentales“ tänzeln wie der Titel vorgibt, elegant und empfindsam. Zu einem filigranen Zeugnis seiner Anschlagskultur gerät die Toccata am Schluss des „Tombeau de Couperin“. Eine in jeder Hinsicht sehr gelungene Einspielung.
