Die Rockband Thin Lizzy hatte in der zweiten Hälfte der Siebziger ihre populärste Phase, angefangen beim Album Fighting (1975) über die Platten Jailbreak und Johnny the Fox (1976) hin zu Bad Reputation (1977). Im Zuge des Erfolgs erschien 1978 das Konzert-Doppelalbum Live and Dangerous, das als eine der besten Live-Platten der Siebziger gilt – wobei, wie man schon an der Präsenz von Produzent Tony Visconti merkt, im Studio bei den Aufnahmen durchaus nachgeholfen wurde. Aber der Mitschnitt fühlt sich dennoch wie ein echtes Konzerterlebnis an, kommt kraftvoller als die Studioplatten daher und stellt damit eine perfekte Zeitkapsel dieser Thin-Lizzy-Ära dar.
