Da kann man noch so sehr King aller Pop-Hits sein (oder „Queen Consort“ wie der Betroffene selbst sagt) und nichtsdestotrotz doch Songs in Reserve haben, die noch keinen großen Erfolg erzielt hatten. Diese Box enthält sowohl Platten voller B-Seiten (1976-2005) als auch solche mit, von Elton John selbst, handverlesenen Lieblingsstücken und dazwischen noch eine unglaublich große Anzahl von mehr oder weniger in Vergessenheit geratenen Titeln. Bei diesem Angebot entdeckt man eine Vielzahl von Balladen, auf denen das Klavier – das Standbein des „Rocketman“ – einen vorrangigen Platz einnimmt (Blues for my baby and me, Where To Now St. Peter?, Chameleon…). Dieses Juwel mit insgesamt acht CDs bietet aber auch ganze, bisher noch nie veröffentlichte Tracks, wie etwa Demoaufnahmen von seinem Debüt, die das Fundament der Partnerschaft Elton John/Bernie Taupin legten. Angeblich soll Letzterer diese Songs wegen „ihrem naiven Touch“ nur ungern ausgegraben worden sein. „In jener Zeit tat ich wirklich nur so als ob“, fügt er noch hinzu. Wetten, dass die wahren Fans damit kein Problem haben!? Erwähnen möchten wir vor allem das 1968 eingespielte Regimental Sgt. Zippo, das als Wink mit dem Zaunpfahl zum Beatles-Album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band gedacht war. Da diese prunkvolle, facettenreiche Spieldose bisher im Dunkeln Gebliebenes ins Licht rückt, konnten auch die Originalversionen bestimmter Klassiker nicht übergangen werden. Bleiben noch jene Songs, über die Elton John auch in seinen Memoiren spricht (darunter ein paar unumgängliche Stücke wie zum Beispiel Song for a guy) und die im letzten Teil dieses potentiellen Weihnachtsgeschenks zu hören sind. ©Nicolas Magenham/Qobuz

Da kann man noch so sehr King aller Pop-Hits sein (oder „Queen Consort“ wie der Betroffene selbst sagt) und nichtsdestotrotz doch Songs in Reserve haben, die noch keinen großen Erfolg erzielt hatten. Diese Box enthält sowohl Platten voller B-Seiten (1976-2005) als auch solche mit, von Elton John selbst, handverlesenen Lieblingsstücken und dazwischen noch eine unglaublich große Anzahl von mehr oder weniger in Vergessenheit geratenen Titeln. Bei diesem Angebot entdeckt man eine Vielzahl von Balladen, auf denen das Klavier – das Standbein des „Rocketman“ – einen vorrangigen Platz einnimmt (Blues for my baby and me, Where To Now St. Peter?, Chameleon…). Dieses Juwel mit insgesamt acht CDs bietet aber auch ganze, bisher noch nie veröffentlichte Tracks, wie etwa Demoaufnahmen von seinem Debüt, die das Fundament der Partnerschaft Elton John/Bernie Taupin legten. Angeblich soll Letzterer diese Songs wegen „ihrem naiven Touch“ nur ungern ausgegraben worden sein. „In jener Zeit tat ich wirklich nur so als ob“, fügt er noch hinzu. Wetten, dass die wahren Fans damit kein Problem haben!? Erwähnen möchten wir vor allem das 1968 eingespielte Regimental Sgt. Zippo, das als Wink mit dem Zaunpfahl zum Beatles-Album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band gedacht war. Da diese prunkvolle, facettenreiche Spieldose bisher im Dunkeln Gebliebenes ins Licht rückt, konnten auch die Originalversionen bestimmter Klassiker nicht übergangen werden. Bleiben noch jene Songs, über die Elton John auch in seinen Memoiren spricht (darunter ein paar unumgängliche Stücke wie zum Beispiel Song for a guy) und die im letzten Teil dieses potentiellen Weihnachtsgeschenks zu hören sind. ©Nicolas Magenham/Qobuz
