Abbey Road war das letzte Beatles-Album, das eingespielt wurde (obwohl Let It Be das letzte Album war, das veröffentlicht wurde), und ein passender Abgesang für die Gruppe. Die Gruppe stand in allen Facetten ihrer Kunst immer noch an vorderster Front, ob sie nun einige der besten Harmonien erdachte, die jemals auf einem Rockalbum zu hören waren, ob sie ein Medley von Songs und Charakterskizzen schuf, die einen guten Teil von Seite zwei ausmachen, ob sie dezente Anklänge eines Moog-Synthesizers einbringt oder wilden, gitarrenlastigen Rock produziert. Gleichzeitig mauserte George Harrison sich zu einem führenden Songwriter und steuerte das heitere „Here Comes the Sun“ und die hochmelodische Ballade „Something“ bei, die in der Folge als erster von Harrison geschriebene Beatles-Hit in die Musikgeschichte einging.
