The Myriad

Seattle band the Myriad play a tightly sculpted and intense strain of alt-rock that takes cues from acts like Muse, Radiohead, Coldplay, and Catherine Wheel. Their 2005 debut, You Can't Trust a Ladder, helped establish them nationally, but they got their biggest boost after winning a 2007 MTV competition. The band's single "A Clean Shot" soon went into heavy rotation, creating further buzz ahead of their 2008 follow-up, With Arrows, with Poise. Following the 2010 death of their drummer, the Myriad entered a prolonged hiatus that ended in 2023 with the reissue of their first three EPs. The group began in 2001 with university students Jeremy Edwardson (vocals, guitar) and John Roger Schofield (bass). Determined to start a band in which all members had equal artistic input, the duo recruited Scott Davis (drums), Jonathan Young (guitar), and Steven Tracy (guitar, keyboards), and the Myriad began writing material together. Over the next few years, they built up a catalog of EPs highlighting their diverse and dynamic arrangements. After 2002's Until We Meet Again, they issued Which of You in 2003 and The Myriad in 2004. In 2005, the band joined the roster of Floodgate Records which delivered their debut album, You Can't Trust a Ladder. A subsequent lineup change saw Randy Miller replace Davis on drums, and in December 2007 the Myriad won first place in MTV's Dew Circuit Breakout competition. Their video for "A Clear Shot" began rotation on the network in January 2008, with their sophomore album, With Arrows, with Poise, following in May on Koch Records. Just after its release, the band's drummer, Randy Miller, was diagnosed with cancer, and he passed away in 2010. Following a decade-long hiatus, Edwardson revived the Myriad in the early 2020s. In 2023, all three of their early EPs, previously released on CD, were made available on streaming networks.
