Agust D (aka Suga) is the pseudonym of South Korean rapper, songwriter, and producer Min Yoon-gi (born on March 9th, 1993), mostly known for being a member of K-Pop boy band BTS. Agust D started writing and producing his own material at age 13, and quickly gained popularity in the underground circuit. He initially joined Big Hit Entertainment as a producer in 2010, and spent the following three years rehearsing before the debut of BTS in 2013. Mainly written between plane trips and hotel rooms during BTS’ tours, Agust D (2016), the rapper’s first mixtape, featured hardcore hip-hop beats and incisive lyrics that recalled his pre-BTS work. Agust D proved to be a commercial and critical success, reaching Number 3 on Billboard’s World Albums chart, and was listed by Fuse as one of the 20 best mixtapes of that year. Due to his commitments with BTS, Yoon-gi took four years to record and produce D-2 (2020), the follow-up to his debut mixtape. For this release, the rapper incorporated traditional Korean instruments into his songs, developing a more sophisticated, mature sound that matched his introspective lyrics. D-2 also featured guest appearances by American singer MAX, Kim Jong-wan (of Nell fame), and BTS co-member RM. In 2021, Suga mainly entered the charts through his collaborations with American rapper Juice Wrld ("Girl of My Dreams") and South Korean pop singer Psy ("That That"). 2023 saw the release of his highly anticipated studio debut D-Day, which reached Number 2 on the Billboard 200. Apart from becoming one of the highest-charting efforts by a South Korean artist on the US charts, D-Day also included cameos by Ryuichi Sakamoto, J-Hope, IU, and the Rose's Woosung.
