Springtime Carnivore

Springtime Carnivore's name may sound aggressive, but the music does not; a light but satisfying fusion of sunshine pop, psychedelia, and folk-rock filtered through the lens of indie rock, Springtime Carnivore's music is bright and intelligent without showing off too much polish. Springtime Carnivore is a one-woman project led by Greta Morgan, who was born in Oak Brook, Illinois on February 12, 1988. Morgan began learning piano when she was only two, and started writing "goofy little ditties" not long after. She grew up on '60s folk and '70s pop singles, all loaded into a jukebox her father kept in their basement, which clearly influenced her later work. A multi-instrumentalist who can play guitar, bass, keyboards, and drums as well as sing, Morgan first made a name for herself as a member of the Chicago-based groups the Hush Sound (originally active from 2004 to 2008) and Gold Motel (2009-2011) before relocating to Los Angeles, California and launching her new project. (Morgan also toured as a member of La Sera, featuring Katy Goodman of the Vivian Girls.) Coining the name after seeing a coyote while working on songs, Morgan released Springtime Carnivore's debut single in August 2014, and recorded most of their eponymous debut album using a makeshift recording setup she installed in her practice space (with Morgan handling all the instruments except the bass). The rest of the songs were recorded with producer Richard Swift at his National Freedom studio in Oregon. In 2016, after releasing a covers record with La Sera's Katy Goodman, Morgan issued her sophomore outing under the Springtime Carnivore moniker, Midnight Room.
