Formerly performing under the stage name of Christine and the Queens, the French singer, songwriter, choregrapher, and producer known as Redcar (born Héloïse Adélaïde Létissier on 1 June 1988 in Nantes), first made a splash at the 2016 Glastonbury Festival. His debut album Chaleur Humaine was released in the US as Christine and The Queens in 2015 and reached number seven on Billboard's Heatseekers Chart. Released with the original title in a deluxe edition in the UK in 2016, it went to number two on the UK Albums Chart and the single “Tilted” went to number 20. Raised by teacher parents, he studied theatre at École Normale Supérieure de Lyon and moved to England where he developed what he called "freakpop" and began performing with a group of drag queen musicians he dubbed the Queens. He toured America with Marina and the Diamonds and appeared on the BBC New Year's Eve show Jools' Annual Hootenanny at the end of 2016. In 2018 he returned with a critically acclaimed second album entitled Chris, which reached number three in the UK and number one in Belgium. After teaming up with British synthpop icon Charli XCX for the 2019 collaboration “Gone”, Redcar re-emerged in 2020 with a six-track EP entitled La Vita Nuova, informed by the death of his mother and accompanied by a choreographed short film of the same name. The EP, which also featured a collaboration with Caroline Polachek on the title track, was followed in 2022 by the release of his third full-length effort, the mainly French-language album Redcar les adorables étoiles (prologue), on which he delves further into his long-running themes of sexuality, sensuality, queerness, and identity.
