Quinquis

The project of singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Émilie Tiersen, Quinquis' enveloping electronic compositions reflect on history, identity, and transformation. On 2022's Seim, Tiersen combined songs about her roots as a native of Brittany with cosmic-sounding synths. Born Émilie Quinquis in the French region of Brittany, Tiersen began making music while in her teens and eventually formed the largely acoustic project Tiny Feet. Under that name she released two albums, 2014's Silent and 2017's As an End to Death, which was mixed and co-produced by Gareth Jones. After marrying and starting a family with acclaimed composer and multi-instrumentalist Yann Tiersen, her approach to music changed. She incorporated more electronics into her sound and sang in Breton and Faroese instead of the mix of English and her native tongue that she used with Tiny Feet. Adopting her maiden name as her performing moniker, Quinquis' songs reflected her passion for nature as well as the history of Brittany and Ushant, the small island on the west coast of France where she lived with Yann Tiersen. To make her debut album as Quinquis, she reunited with Jones and also worked with Ólavur Jákupsson (who also appeared on As an End to Death) and writer/endurance cyclist Emily Chappell. A softly pulsing meditation on hope and resilience, Seim arrived in May 2022 on Mute.
