Pete Swanson
As one half of Portland, Oregon's harsh noise mainstay Yellow Swans, Pete Swanson provided sludgy pulsing beats and staticky tape manipulation to counter his partner Gabriel Saloman's feedback-laden guitar onslaught. Yellow Swans operated in a violent landscape of slowed-down screaming dissonance from 2001 until they parted ways in 2008. During those seven years, the band performed, recorded, and released music ceaselessly, with Swanson contributing to dozens of Yellow Swans releases, as well as a few limited CD-R releases under his own name or under monikers like P Swans or Badgerlore. Following the group's dissolution, Swanson relocated to New York City to continue his education, and at the same time began to focus on solo material and performances. In 2012, he released Man with Potential on Type Records; a swirling mesh of distorted club beats interlaced with chattering blips of hypnotic electronic noise and garbled tape screeches.
