MINT FIELD
Idioma disponible: inglésMexican trio Mint Field make ethereal dream pop with nods to Krautrock and ambient, utilizing fuzzy, swirling guitars and heavenly vocals expressing deep sorrow and longing. Their sprawling, spacy songs, which are sung entirely in Spanish, shun conventional song structures, but still sound accessible and inviting. Making their full-length debut with the dreamy psych-gaze of 2018's Pasar de las Luces, the group altered their lineup and released the rougher yet more rhythmically focused Sentimiento Mundial in 2020. Mint Field was founded by vocalist/guitarist Estrella Sánchez (daughter of Nortec Collective member Bostich) and drummer/synthesizer player Amor Amezcua. The duo formed in Tijuana in 2014, when both members were still teenagers. With the help of bassist Andrés Corella, they recorded their debut EP, Primeras Salidas, in 2015. However, at that point they were still finding their sound, and they later admitted that they weren't quite sure what they were doing at the time. Mint Field's musicianship and songwriting skills improved by leaps and bounds throughout the next few years, and they toured extensively throughout Mexico and the United States. By 2017, they had moved to Mexico City, and Andrea Villalón became their live bassist. The band traveled to Detroit to record their debut album with producer Chris Koltay. Pasar de las Luces was issued by Innovative Leisure in February 2018. After playing dozens of shows across North America and Europe, Mint Field released the EP Mientras Esperas in 2019. As of 2020, the lineup consisted of Sánchez, bassist Sebastian Neyra, and drummer Callum Brown. The group recorded their second album at Wilton Way Studios in London with producer Syd Kemp, along with help from Brown (both of Ulrika Spacek), and guest musicians such as Cathy Lucas (Vanishing Twin) and Nathan Pigott. Sentimiento Mundial was released by Felte in September 2020.
