Texas-based singer/songwriter Livingston specializes in muscular, melodramatic pop with a candidly confessional undercurrent. His major-label debut single, 2020's "Fairytale," was a virtual coming-of-age story that spliced superhero imagery with adolescent anxiety, cloaking the arena stomp of Imagine Dragons with bedroom intimacy. After he went indie in 2023, Livingston leaned in on that forthright emotionalism for a series of singles, culminating in the 2024 album A Hometown Odyssey. It topped the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart. Growing up in Denton, Texas, Drake Jon Livingston, Jr. turned to music as a means of coping with anxiety, bullying, and self-doubt. Using funds he'd earned from helping film a wedding on his dad's camera, he bought his first MIDI keyboard at the age of 12 and began composing music at home on his computer. He taught himself how to write, arrange, and produce, and by his late teens, his powerful demos caught the ear of Elektra Records, which signed him in late 2019. Released in early 2020, his first official single, "Fairytale," was a biographical track that name-drops a number of Pixar movie heroes that were a source of comfort during his youth. A second single, "Home," arrived a couple of months later. "Fairytale and "Home" both anchored his debut EP, Lighthouse, which appeared in July 2020. At the end of that year, he released "Superkid," launching a series of singles -- including "Hercules" and "The Giver"-- that was featured on his second EP, An Unlikely Origin Story, released in May 2021. Livingston released three additional songs -- "Message in a Bottle," "The Author," and "Religion" -- before parting ways with Elektra. Refashioning himself as an indie act in 2023, Livingston released a blizzard of singles over the course of a year: "Lifetime," "Hurricane," "Half Life," "Traitor," and "Otherside" were all issued in those 12 months. The songs, along with "Last Man Standing," built the core of Livingston's third album, A Hometown Odyssey, which he released early in 2024. Even without the major-label push, it went to the top of the Billboard Heatseekers chart, and he launched his first headlining tour.
