Lennis Rodriguez

Lennis Rodriguez is an award-winning composer, singer, and producer of Latin urban music. Her sound mixes Afro, Latin, and tropical sources with poignant, empowering, feminist lyrics and wildly creative beats that she designs herself or develops with co-producers. Since arriving on the scene with her sultry debut single "Imaginate'' in 2017, the Dominican-Spanish singer/songwriter with the breezy, jazzy alto has been prolific: Before her debut long-player Colores appeared in January of 2021, she had released no less than 30 digital singles, videos, and EPs, including the hits "Pum Pum," "Trukitos" with Denyerkin, and "Cucu" with Juan Magan. While her videos have racked up tens of millions of views, two of her records have been certified gold. She issued a remix of "Te Sale" in February 2021 in collaboration with RVFV. Born Jorlennis Rodriguez in the Dominican Republic in 1994, home is a place she continues to cherish, and whose tropical sounds she incorporates into her music. Her parents emigrated to Spain when she was nine. Singing was one of her greatest pleasures as a young child, and she was encouraged by her parents, who enlisted her in the church and school youth choirs. Rodriguez considers herself a daughter of the streets, of neighborhoods, and the poor. At age 14, she won a scholarship to study at the Valladolid Conservatory after winning an award from the Teresa Rabal Foundation for talented and disadvantaged children. She studied piano and violin, and a bit later vocal technique at the Escuela de Música Creativa in Madrid. She began her homemade recording ventures not long after graduating high school, and posted her early experiments to social media, where they earned the interest of Eco Music. They signed her in late 2016, when Rodriguez was 22. She issued the Victor R-Swag-produced "Imaginate" in 2017 and, based on club play and nearly 400,000 video views, hurried back into the studio with several co-writers and knocked out a follow-up in "Vampos pa'la Calle" a few months later. The next year she issued five singles, including the hit "Gamers," which showcased her signature jazzy phrasing atop a rolling reggaeton beat; she has recut the track several times. She also released her first collaborative trap single, "Dime Que" with Yei & Dey. She threw listeners a curveball with a cover of Christopher Acevedo Diaz's "Canarias" that she transformed into a big-beat tropical anthem with rolling bata drum samples, thanks to production from Kilo Beats. In 2019 she released a European club hit remix of "Gamers" with collaborative assistance from El Super Nuevo and Juacko. Rodriguez got her first chart break with the release of "Te Sale." Its video registered three-million views during its first month of release, propelling the single to gold certification. It has since registered more than 12-million views. She teamed with singer/rapper/reggaetonero Henry Mendez for "Fuego," and scored another gold certification for the anthemic trap single "Trukitos" in collaboration with singer, songwriter, and producer Denyerkin that December. 2020 signaled Rodriguez's breakout across Latin America, the dancefloors of Europe, and the clubs of North America. It began with the release of the HACHE-produced "Le Damos" and its street party video, which racked up a few million views within weeks of release. While club and radio DJs were fighting to play her tracks, Rodriguez was hidden away in a jungle studio recording an album. She emerged to release several more singles, including a collaboration with Kaydy Cain on the charting trap hit "La Mira," and the steamy minor-key dub reggaeton "Coja Su Turno." In June she and Juan Magan teamed for "Cucu." Though she didn't write it, she co-produced with HACHE and made it her own, claiming the first vocal atop layers of marimbas, Nigerian high-life guitars, and plena and cumbia rhythms. The record hit the Top Ten in Spain and its video scored more than ten-million views inside two months. She followed with the steamy urbano trap of "Pum Pum," another co-production with HACHE -- it went to number six on the Spanish charts. In October "Diferente," co-written and produced with HACHE, among others, wove Middle Eastern and North African modes and melodic fragments into urbano, creating a deliberately exotic sonic palette that registered with DJs across Europe. Rodriguez's final single for the year was a re-recorded acoustic version of "Cuku" with Magan. It too charted. In January of 2021, Rodriguez released her debut long-player Colores. The 17-track release was helmed by the artist; joining her were no less than a dozen co-producers. The set included singles from the previous year, and newer tracks including "X1DM," "Portugal," and "Noche." In February she released a collaborative remix of "Te Sale" with urbano singer RVFV.
